Planning Your Wedding: The Definitive Guide

Once engaged what is the next step – so many things to think of from venue, guests lists to the ever so important wedding dress. Here is a step by step guide to make your wedding planning easy!

12 Months or more

• Set your budget
• Pinterest styles and colours of weddings you think you would want
• Decide on a wedding date and book your venue (most places get booked up sometimes a year and a half in advance so once you have your heart set on a venue book it as soon as possible)
• Confirm this date with your registrar, cleric and book them in
• Choose and book your photographer/videographer (we highly recommend Lyme Bay Photography for the Somerset, Devon and Dorset areas)
• Draft a guest list and send out save the dates
• Book your appointment with TL Bridal Boutique and order your wedding dress (we recommend you buy your dress at least 6 months in advance of your wedding)
• Choose your bridesmaids, ushers and best man / maid of honour
• If you wish to do so organise wedding insurance
• Research and begin booking your suppliers such as florist, cake maker, caterer – at TL Bridal we have recommended local suppliers we can put you in contact with
• Think and book entertainment for the ceremony and reception



6 months to go

• Order your stationary
• book a hairdresser and make up artist and arrange a trial (we recommend Reflections in Axminster for those local to East Devon and Dorset)
• Choose outfits and accessories for the rest of the bridal party such as bridesmaid dresses, groom’s suit, best man, ushers
• Buy your wedding rings and find out when the will be ready to collect (bespoke or handmade rings will take longer)
• Order/make your wedding favours
• Buy your bridal lingerie, shoes and wear them for your dress fittings at TL Bridal Boutique
• Book your honeymoon, check your passports are valid and find out about any vaccinations required (book your honeymoon through Kuoni Travels and they will take such good care of you!!)



3 months to go – (don’t freak out, still plenty of time!)

• Send our invitations and gift list
• Discuss menu and drinks with your caterer
• Plan/hold your hen and stag parties
• Have your first wedding dress fitting at TL Bridal Boutique
• Confirm ceremony details including wedding music and readings
• Buy gifts for the best man, ushers and bridesmaids



1 Month to go – so exciting!!

• Arrange your final dress fitting either with TL Bridal Boutique or our recommended seamstress
• Hold final fittings for the rest of the bridal party
• Confirm all bookings with your wedding suppliers
Confirm and finalise your guest list, seating plan and confirm dietary requirements with your caterer
• Write, time and practise any wedding speeches



1 week to go

• Final check for all outfits
Hold your wedding rehearsal (if required)
• Put together a schedule of timings for the day and give copies to the whole wedding party
• Put together emergency kit for the day eg makeup, headache pills, sewing kit, plasters



The day before – phew

• Deliver everything to the venue and decorate if necessary
• Collect any hired outfits
• Take our money for cash payments on the day
• Give rings, details of suppliers, copies of speeches, vows and fees to the best man
• Lay out/steam your wedding dress, lingerie, accessories etc – make sure your bridesmaids do the same!
• Go to bed early and make sure you set your alarm



The Big Day – you are finally there and it’s party time!!

• Allow plenty of time to get ready – we suggest at least 4 hours
• The groom and best man should arrive at the ceremony with at least 15 minutes to spare
• Grab yourselves a glass of bubbly and celebrate!!
